George Velazquez, Chaplain of the Month

March, 2020

Aside from my BBI certification, I am also ordained as a Senior Chaplain under the I.F.O.C. (International Fellowship of Chaplains). Chaplaincy has allowed me to stretch my tent posts to the mission field outside the walls of the traditional church. Like Paul, “It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where  Christ was not known so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation” Romans 15:20.
While on this journey in the motorcycle community, at Humboldt Park and in the local community, I have encountered many people that have been hurt by the church and are not interested in going back. So that has called me to serve as a Chaplain in the following areas:

1. Motorcycle Chaplain – “CFLMM” (Christ For Life Motorcycle Ministry) where I am also honored to serve as President.

a. Duties include:
i. Provide leadership support to our ministry and members
ii. Attend Hospital visitations
iii. Perform funeral services
iv. Officiate weddings
v. Conduct bike blessings
vi. Perform Fallen Rider Memorials
vii. Conduct Biker Services and Discipleship
viii. Teach at our annual Biker Retreats
ix. Attend various outreach events with other clubs
x. Support our CBU (Christian Biker Unity) group by
attending events and teaching at the annual Summits

2. Sports Chaplain & Board Member for “ULHP” (United Leagues of Humboldt Park) and the “RCLL” (Roberto Clemente Little League) also at Humboldt Park.

a. Duties include:
i. Provide prayer and ministerial support
ii. Mediate when issues arise
iii. Provide weekly prayer/devotionals before the games
iv. Open in prayer and share a message at ceremonial services as needed.
v. Perform Hospital visitations
vi. Provide services for weddings, baptisms, Quinceneras, etc.

3. Community Chaplain and Board Member for PPJ (Parents for Peace anJustice) who provide support for parent who have lost a child to the senseless violence in the City of Chicago.

a. Duties include:
i. Provide prayer and ministerial support during Board and
support group meetings
ii. Prepare and share a message for support group meetings
iii. Conduct Prayer vigils and memorial services for parents who have suffered a great loss
iv. Perform funeral and/or memorial services
v. Advocate for peace with gangs and others in the community
vi. Provide support for sports and after school programs
vii. Solicit local government to advocate for changes in policies
viii. Attend various networking events with local police and other community groups

As a part of BBI, I also plan to provide support and expand our collective knowledge to other Chaplains. This will also include supporting any local outreach events to help share the gospel message in our community.

This may seem like quite a bit, but I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Until He calls me home,
George Velazquez
