Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 1 Peter 1:13-19 (ESV)

As summer has waned and the leaves drop off of the trees we know that the old cold weather season is fast approaching. To me this means that there will be very few days when I can ride, and if I do ride I’ll be so bundled up that I won’t enjoy the trip. It means short days of sunlight and long dark nights. Staying inside more, while peering out through the windows longing for the spring sun. However, with this depressing thought in mind, we also have the holidays approaching. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner and that brings time with family and friends, good food and lots of laughs.

Whether you love winter or hate it, or whether you Long for the holidays to come or be gone, there’s always one thing we as Christians can be thankful for. That’s the fact that even though we were once exiled from our creator, even though we as human beings have turned our backs on the one and only God of creation, He loved us enough to come down, be born of a human nature, live and be refused, suffering all manner of insult and injustice, just to pay the ransom of our sins on the cross.

I’m so thankful for a savior who died for me and yet lives today beside the Father. That I, oh wretched creature that I am, can live and die in the peace of…”knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” So as the fall winds down and winter settles in, stop, and take every opportunity to give thanks to our ever loving God.
