How Focused Are You?

How focused are you? Do you have your eyes on the Lord? Are you wavering, stumbling? This happens when we look away from or at the surrounding circumstances instead of Jesus. Let’s take a look at Matthew 14:22-32

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

30 Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

So in the text just before this, Jesus has been preaching to a lot of people, 5000 men to be exact. Well, they were all hungry and the disciples had tried to send them away.

Jesus asked him what they had and they said, ” two fishes and some loaves of bread”, so Jesus blessed it and separated it and fed them all.

This is been a really long day, so Jesus sent his disciples out in the boat to cross the sea. He needed some time so he went to pray, there was a big storm that had come up while the apostles were in the boat.

Jesus started walking out to them on the water, while the apostles saw him namely Peter they all thought it was a ghost. Jesus called out to them. Be of good cheer it is I.

Peter being the Bold one spoke out and said if it is you, Lord, bid me come out on the water. Jesus said come on, it is I.

Well, Peter was doing really good walking on the water right toward Jesus. When he saw the storm and the wind in the water raging he lost his focus on Jesus and began to sink.

How many of us when we look away from Jesus begin to sink, begin to go back to the old life the things that we know we should not do because were weak and made from clay?

Jesus reached out and pulled Peter out of the water from sinking, and he said yeah little faith.

The point is when we look away from Jesus our faith goes down and we fail. We’re not perfect as Jesus is, we won’t always fail but we will fail. Keep your eyes on Jesus keep your eyes on the prize and fight the good fight.

If we keep our eyes focused on the Lord we can do amazing things through him. Always remember it is God‘s ministry, it is God’s amazing Acts that are done through jars of clay.
