Isaiah 58: 6 -9
“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’

Much of our “churchianity” is wrapped up in buildings and programs. Someone said “If the Holy spirit left many churches would not even miss him, life would go on as usual.”

Many of the church growth seminars are just teaching good business practices BUT the CHURCH is a living organism not just an organization.

That is a sad truth. Here we are instructed in proper activity for the God’s people. It is all about making sure the needy have their needs met.

Listen, Jesus, were he around today in the flesh, would be accused of preaching a social gospel. WHY? Because he fed the crowds he preached to. He healed the sick and raise the dead an that drew people to him. And all he would be looked down the nose at today as he was then because he accepted those people, the publicans and tax gatherers and sinners as they were.

Pastor Berry spoke at our church recently and he showed these brothers letting a paralytic down thru the roof of the house and the first thing Jesus said was “Your sins are forgiven.” He didn’t come for that, he came because,as Rich said, “He had a great need. He needed to walk.. BUT he had a greater need as well salvation, But Jesus always met people who came to have their great need met where they were. He met their great need so as to meet their greatest need”.

Listen, Jan Schakowsky said, ”There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help”.

MEET THEIR GREAT NEED and lead them to want their greatest need met. That is close to God’s heart.
There are those touched by God’s Son who said “Here I am.” But get this wonderful truth, If you look at the heart of God, THEN…THEN…Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
