My Philosophy of Ministry
By Nyra Roddy
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God…”
Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”
Acts 20:24 “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Isaiah 6:8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
Galatians 5:13 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
1 Peter 3:15 “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect”
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God”
1 Corinthians 12:4-7 “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”
Matthew 22:39 “And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself”
Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Romans 12:9-13 “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
Ephesians 4:11-13 “Christ chose some of us to be apostles, prophets, missionaries, pastors, and teachers, so that his people would learn to serve and his body would grow strong. This will continue until we are united by our faith and by our understanding of the Son of God. Then we will be mature, just as Christ is, and we will be completely like him.”
2 Corinthians 6:3-4 “We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry. In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind”
Hebrews 13:16 “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 25:35-40 35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
My Philosophy of ministry is quite simple but very complex…
Every person is made in the image of God. There is not a human being that has ever or will ever walk this Earth that was not brought to life outside of the breath of God. Every person was born in sin and needs a Savior – that being Jesus Christ. Hell exists, and those who are not found in the Lambs book of Life will spend eternity there (Revelation 20:15). Therefore, I am called to help, serve, and share the Gospel effectively with every person. Personally knowing Christ is the greatest joy I’ve ever known, and imagining spending eternity away from Him is the greatest punishment I can imagine; I will stop that from happening to anyone if I can.
My calling specifically revolves around music, and to minister first, to those who have a knowledge of God, but no personal relationship with Him. Secondly, I am called to minister with compassion, empathy, and understanding to those who do not know Christ and to be what they need at that time.
Oswald Chambers said it best when he said that “All His children must become broken bread, and poured out wine” – He explained that all of us will end up feeding the lost until they can feed themselves on Christ.
Spurgeon once said, “If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.”
Seeing one person come to Christ enough to be my life’s work, while at the same time, one is never enough. People are valuable, inherently by the fact they exist and are made in the image of God. All of them are His creation, and to be separated from them for eternity is enough to make Him send His one and only son to die so that they may be reconciled. And that is enough for me… For me to want to bring them to Him, for me to serve, for me to never give up.
