Grace and peace to you all from our Lord Christ Jesus.
Have you ever looked at someone and thought wow there’s a real leader? Judging from appearance? I read a book once you can tell who the real leader is by standing in a group and see who they are listening to. It’s not always the leader by title.
Man tends to look at things on the outside, how pretty a woman is, how brawny a man is. Cars, motorcycles, you name it, man will judge it by outside appearances. How old something is, it’s old get rid of it, it’s not worth anything.
God, on the other hand is, not like this at all , he doesn’t see how dirty we are on the outside or smelly, our imperfections, we only have one leg or are blind deaf and dumb . All these things are of no consideration to the God of glory.
So how does God look at us? How old we are? How useful we might could be? How strong we are? There are many ways God could see us, our weaknesses, what we don’t have to offer, the list could go on and on.
Let’s look at 1 Samuel 16 , Saul has disobeyed God On more than 1 occasion, God withdrew from him. He had a man that he knew was going to be his champion, king is Israel. No one thought anything of him except he was the keeper of the sheep. Young ruddy not much to talk about , he killed bears , lions protecting his flock a man after God’s own heart the Bible describes him.
God sent Samuel to anoint a king , Samuel thought he had the king pegged, God refused all that Samuel thought. He told him to ask for another, Jesse said I have one son left in the field keeping the sheep , go get him.
1 Samuel 16-7-13
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The Lord has not chosen this one either.” 9 Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Nor has the Lord chosen this one.” 10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” 11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”
“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”
Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”
12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.
God looks at the heart, at a mans motives , not the outside.
