Defending Your Faith

by Sam MCCoy, The Big Q

If someone asks you about Jesus can you do the same? On the spot are you able to explain or does your mind go blank? Sometimes, in your encounters with people, you will find a person that seems like they are trying to test you.

1st Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

Never argue with someone over bible issues it just doesn’t go well, especially if they are gunning for you. Debate in love or not at all.

Are Jesus and God the same? Yes, they are, the bible and Jesus uses statements to declare who he is without saying look at me I’m God.

John 1:1-4, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Jesus the word and the word was God plain as day.

John 10:30 “I and my Father are one”.

John 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

John 8:57-58 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham”?  Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am”.

Here Jesus uses the name I AM, the name that he told Moses to give to Pharaoh. Jesus plainly stated he was God, that he was here before Moses.

Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you..

All solid statements that Jesus is the same as the Father God.

So why does Jesus pray to God? Is he praying to himself? Is there a reason he is doing this?

John 11:41-42 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. The last statement that they may BELIEVE.

Jesus prays that we will believe and to teach us to pray, to have a relationship with the Father, communion with him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The sin of the world dumped onto Jesus, we owed a debt we could not pay. Jesus put our sins on his tab and paid it with his blood.

Defend your faith with love and kindness, the Holy Spirit will do the convincing we are mere men. Stay strong in your faith run the race till the end.
