Who really was Barabbas? A thug , murderer, sinner a soul created by God. Did God love him yes he did , did Barabbas really know who God was on that day probably not.
We are all Barabbas we have sinned against God and need redemption some know it and some like him did not. I remember in the movie the passion that moment when he was released his eyes met the Lords he saw something you could tell there in that moment .Something big was going on that moment Barabbas knew something was not right when he looked in to the eyes of Jesus.Barabbas felt the sin in his heart as the Lord was seeing every thing , deed , thought he had ever had. We are all just like him sinful at the core.
Jesus loved Barabbas just like all of us sinners , he wanted to make a way for all of us to be with him. We all don’t get what the Lord was doing , trying to love us and restore us to him.
Now going back to Jesus and Pilate Jesus was humble before him , Peace maker with the power to call down heaven for rescue. The true sign of humbleness is the power to do something about a wrong that was done or being done and you choose not to. The religious leaders of the day didn’t know who he was , they hated him because he was not going according to their plan. Even the scriptures for told of his coming and they didn’t believe. Jesus was all about humbleness , peace , love , forgiveness. Matthew 5:5-10
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus’s agenda was being fulfilled, to go to the cross and give himself for the worlds sin , yours and my sins. Jesus was following the will of the Father it was that simple.
How humble are we living ? Are we putting others above ourselves meeting their needs if we have the resources? It’s not about us never has been , God put our needs in front the need for redemption. This is a example of how we should be trying to live , with humility and love for our brothers in Christ.
How do we make this work in our own lives ? Submission to the authority of God and those he has put over us to lead and guide us. Let’s look at what happened. Matthew 27,
15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to releasing to the multitude one prisoner whom they wished. 16 And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called [b]Barabbas. 17 Therefore, when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” 18 For he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy.
19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.”
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?”
They said, “Barabbas!”
22 Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?”
They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”
23 Then the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?”
But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
24 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a [c]tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this [d]just Person. You see to it.”
25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”
26 Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had [e]scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.
Jesus put it all out there , he let them spit on him , beat him forcing him to carry a cross through town. On up to Calvary and crucified and died , He had the power to stop it but he did not , you can’t get any more humble than that.
Let’s try to Live humble , giving our lives to our Lord and letting him live through us. Let God do A work in you today,
